"Este trabajo tiene como fundamento el valioso estudio sobre iconografía olmeca realizado por Peter David Joralemon. Su aportación -publicada por la Universidad Veracruzana en 1990- fue clave para identificar los motivos plasmados en las vasijas de dicha civilización, presentes en el acervo arqueológico que está bajo el resguardo de la Fundación Cultural Armella-Spitalier. Afortunadamente, durante la mesa redonda Olmecas: balance y perspectivas, llevada a cabo en el Museo Nacional de Antropología (marzo de 2005), se presentó la oportunidad de conversar brevemente con el investigador norteamericano y se incluyó en este trabajo algunos de sus comentarios" (p. 3). |
